"Who are you and what makes you qualified to be my personal assistant?!"
Are you asking yourself this question? It is very easy to answer actually. I am that girl you knew in school who had her hands into everything. Student Council? Yep. Softball Manager? Definitely (Ok, admittedly the coach was cute). Drama Club Secretary? I had nice handwriting - why not. Work? At one time in college I had three jobs at the same time. Unofficial historian for my friends? Absolutely. I was scrapbooking before there was such a thing! Locker organizer? Oh yeah. I am sure my friend Marta will remember how we became friends. It involves one messy locker, a stack of books, a few dozen scraps of paper, and a petrifide potato. She knows what I am talking about... I just could not walk by seeing that hot mess and not step in! I couldn't just settle for being the Reunion chair for grammar school, I had to do it for High School too. Don't feel sorry for me. I love it. I haven't been the greatest at keeping in touch recently (I see an email in my near future...) but I love hearing from my classmates and what they are up to. I guess I have always been sort of the Den Mother.
As I became older and wiser I found other ways to satisfy my over-controlling need to fix and organize. For the past twelve years I have worked for doctors, lawyers, and a few months ago - skateboard park designer. Working in the traditional office setting has allowed me to hone my office skills and to figure out what works and what does not. I have become very efficient at restructuring an office to make it run more smoothly and cut down on operating costs. I found I really like accounting. Needle in the haystack is my specialty. I tackle each new bookkeeping job like a puzzle. You know the pieces are all there, somewhere, you may just have to do some digging to find it.
My paralegal training has made me very adept at research. I once sleuthed my way into finding out the name of the HR Recruiter at a local company (asked someone in the Pro Shop), Googled her, found her on a professional networking site, joined just so I could communicate with her, sent her an email, and voila! Email from her a few days later. It didn't result in a job immediately but just getting her name was like finding the pot of gold. A name can get you in the door, into a club, a discount on your favorite wine, or an extra half hour of massage. You never know when that connection will become very valuable.
As if working full-time, being a wife and mom to our six year old wasn't enough, I had to go and start a business on the side - Papillon Princess Paperie. This became my creative outlet and brought in some extra money. That apparently wasn't enough so I began making hair bows and tutus. I don't even have a daughter...why would I do that you ask? That's a good question. It started with a gift for a friend, that friend's friend asked me to make the same for her, her friend then called me, and there you go. I love creating hair bows. I get an idea for something sketch it out and then try and create the vision I had in my head. Another creative outlet, this one with a challenge.
Another absolute love of mine that I bring to the professional table? Party planning. I have loved planning parties for as long as I can remember. I used to plan tea parties for my dolls and bears complete with invitations and party favors from the time I could write, "U r invited." One of the things I was most looking forward to by being a mom (aside from being a Room Mom) was planning my children's birthdays. I have gone all out for my son's birthday the past six years and have enjoyed all of it. He is becoming a planner and organizer like me and knows a year in advance what the theme will be. This year it is pirates, last year it was "Cars", the year before that, "The Incredibles." I will be gathering my notes and hours of research to create How Tos and Party Planning Instructions in the next few weeks. I will also share some tried and true easy appetizers and party faire in my blog.
What does all this have to do with you, my clients? Well, I hope that you see some of the benefits of hiring me to manage your life. If you are looking for someone to organize your spice rack, garage, closet, or play room - I am your girl. If you would like to throw a spectacular birthday party for your spouse but have no idea where to start - I can do that. If you have a stack of bank statements that you are avoiding like the plague but need to have reconciled - call me! Let's talk about how I can save you time, money, and take some of the stree out of your life.
